Jewel beetles are not bred in captivity , they start out as a wood boring beetle in the forests of Thailand where they can spend as much as 2-3 years in rotting foliage and trees etc , when they emerge from here they have transformed in the a flying beetle.
These then mate and lay eggs in trees etc to continue the cycle, once they have laid there eggs they die, these are then collected from the forest floor by local people as a food source , they eat the beetles, the wings are simply a bi product of a natural occurring food source.
